The parish council is delighted to be notified that, following a public enquiry, at which our Chairman attended in order to address the councils concerns (see Planning page on website). The appeal against the WNC planning decision to refuse the application has been dismissed.
The application for development of commercial properties would have seen further new buildings extending The Lakes development site along land north of the Bedford Road from the existing public house and hotel, all the way to its junction with the High Street at Great Houghton.
The parish council first objected to this proposed development in September 2021, having sought advice from and engaging, Kirkwells planning consultants (see following link), in which it made reference to out proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan which, at that time was subject to consultation.
Again the parish council ensured that its objections were taken into account at the appeal in August 2023, by which time our Neighbourhood Plan had been endorsed having been supported by 84% of residents.
It is of significant note that, among the the inspector’s reasons for dismissing the appeal, is the fact that the proposals breached our Neighbourhood Development Plan.
